A New Year…Some New Priorities. | Houston Family and Baby Photography

happy
2015 was a crazy busy year for Emily Crump Photography!  I met so many sweet new families and loved photographing many new babies in the studio this past year.  The business thrived last year and 2016 is looking to be an even more busy year, but something just will not settle in my heart.  I used to want to book every single session that asked to book with me.  Seeing my calendar completely full with sessions every month and editing the nights away was what I justified in my mind as a successful business.  A successful business I had built from the ground up and boy, was I proud of it!  But then I started to realize what I have been missing.  I’ve missed being at home to tell the my kids goodnight at the end of a long day because I was chasing the good evening sunset light at a session.  I’ve missed Saturday soccer games during the fall busy season because I had a day packed with sessions.  I’ve missed story time at night because I was editing at the computer.  I’ve missed alone time with the husband because I’m answering emails or editing, or packing up orders after the kids are in bed.  After 5 years of this I have decided to take a step back.
This year I am going to purposely live in the moment with my own children and family.  No more finding childcare for an evening shoot before my husband gets home or missing that Saturday baseball and soccer game or gymnastics meet to run to a session.  In 2016 they will be my priority.  I will once again become the more stay-at-home mom that my husband and I decided would be best for our family, than the business owner out to book more sessions and grow the business.
With all that being said, I will not be taking any family or children sessions for at least the first part of 2016.  However, I will not be closing the doors to ECP in all aspects.
I will be concentrating on my newborn photography business that I can do from the studio during the hours when my children are in school.  I will be taking between 3-4 newborn sessions a month in the studio.   Those sessions will be done during school-time morning hours.  These sessions will book up quickly so please email me today if you are expecting or in need of a newborn session.
I also will not be booking any newborn sessions at all in the months of June through August to allow my un-divided attention to be on my own children during their summer break.
This is hard decision and one that I did not easily or quickly make.  I do not know what the future holds for adding back in family and children’s sessions at ECP but for right now I feel as though this is right for my family.  I am so very thankful to each and every one of you that have grown my business to where it is today, I never would have imagined my business growing to this level when I started back in 2010.  I have loved getting to know all your families over the years and watching your children grow.  I will miss the sweet “Hi Miss Emily, do I get a ring pop after this?!” or the sweet big hugs that I get from so many of your precious children.
Thank you for understanding my heart on this matter.  I pray that you all have a happy and healthy 2016 year!  Make it the best one yet!
